Feeling unhappy, lost or unlike yourself?

Perhaps you’ve been feeling unhappy, lost or simply not quite yourself, but can’t really explain why. Everything might seem fine on the outside. You’re getting things done, seeing people and carrying on with everyday life. Yet something feels missing.

You may feel disconnected, irritable, overwhelmed or stuck. Perhaps you’re finding less enjoyment in things, questioning your direction or wondering why life feels harder than you think it should.

It can be difficult to ask for support when you don’t know how to explain what’s wrong. But you don’t need to have it worked out before coming to counselling.

“I don’t know why I feel like this”

Sometimes there is a clear reason for seeking therapy: grief or bereavement, relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, trauma or a significant life change.

At other times, there isn’t an obvious starting point. You might have a sense that something isn’t right without knowing what it is. Or there may be several things happening at once, making it difficult to separate what you feel from what you need.

You may also find yourself dismissing your feelings because other people seem to have more difficult circumstances. Perhaps you tell yourself that you should be grateful, that you’re overthinking things or that you just need to get on with it.

You can appreciate parts of your life and still feel unhappy. Those feelings deserve space, even when you cannot explain them.

You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis

Counselling isn’t only for times when everything has fallen apart. You can come because you feel unsettled, lonely, unsure of yourself or tired of repeating patterns that leave you unhappy.

You may want to explore low self-esteem, your relationships or the expectations you have learned to place on yourself. You might be making sense of neurodivergence, changes in your identity or a stage of life that feels unfamiliar.

Or you may simply want somewhere to say, “I don’t feel like myself.”

That is a place to begin.

What would we talk about?

We can start with what everyday life feels like for you. What has been on your mind? When do you feel most comfortable being yourself? What feels difficult, draining or hard to put into words?

There is no expectation to tell your whole story straight away. You don’t need to prepare a list of problems or know what you want to achieve before your first session.

As we talk, we can explore your feelings, experiences and relationships, including patterns that may be affecting how you feel now. The aim is to develop understanding together, rather than rush towards an explanation.

A space to understand yourself

I’m Wendy C. Miller, an integrative relational psychotherapist and BACP Registered Member.

My approach is warm, person-centred and collaborative. I offer space where you can speak openly, be uncertain and explore whatever feels important to you. We work at your pace, with room for difficult feelings, unanswered questions and the things you may not have felt able to say elsewhere.

You don’t need to know exactly why you’re unhappy before reaching out.

I offer counselling and psychotherapy for adults in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, and online across the UK. Weekday appointments are available.
